Only problem I had was that they gave me a McDonald's ramekin to dip my quesadilla in. Customer service is friendly and it's a cool location. My friends also call me Young Papasito and that Is why I took my talents to Papa Grande's.

Had lunch here today. The place was empty. The menu is limited and the prices did look a little pricey but the off season lunch special of two tacos for $7 was very reasonable. I got the fish tacos which I thought were very good as we're the chips and salsa. And it was plenty of food for me for lunch. I don't know how they can afford to stay open for lunch so that may come to an end soon. I've seen it seems pretty busy at night so hopefully that sustains them.

First and most important it's a $$$$ restaurant not a $$. Like most Mexican themed restaurant they do something that just drives me nuts they call a small burrito a "soft" taco. Taco=hard crispy shell, burrito= soft. So in my opinion they don't serve any tacos. The happy hour is a bit shy of ok $1.50 coors light is great but rail drinks $4 you got to be kidding me. Not gonna be a locals hang out so they are going to have to make it in the summer. Parking is a problem.

On a quest to find the best fish tacos in Ocean City (a distinction previously held by Davey Jones locker room on the boardwalk), this place was decent but left me lacking. The fish was decently good (although frying it is not a good idea) but the taco as a whole was bland. I was hopeful the creamy sauce would make it good but it was basically some form of sour cream sauce with little spice. The house hot sauce on the table though was really good. It was a sirracha mixed with vinegar. That mixed with the sour cream sauce on top of the taco was ok (ask for extra sour cream sauce). Still not the best, but not the worst. My quest continues. Oh also, eat the chips sparingly. Anything after the first serving is on your bill, unlike at other Mexican restaurants where you have an endless supply.

Great casual place for Mexican food ( If you are looking for 'TexMex' you are in the wrong place). Wife and I had the tacos-her crispy shrimp, and chorizo for me. Both very good. Knowledgeable bartenders, friendly competent staff, great service, good scenic views, cold beer. Met the owner, nice guy. Great addition to Fenwick Island. I'm coming back and bringing more couples.

Not great or even good. Bland food served cold. Shrimp were not cleaned for some reason and carnitas was dried out. No authenticity. Management needs to stop and hit the reset button. Quality control needs attention. Up shot -Waitress was pleasant and attentive. Matt Haley has better restaurants around.

Four friends and I ate dinner here last night. We had an extremely accommodating waitress named Abby (sp?) who was forthcoming with vegetarian options before we even asked. We arrived at 6:30 pm on a sunny Saturday. After waiting only 10 minutes, we were shown to our roomy booth. The beer and drinks (mojito, piña colada, and watermelon cocktail) were great. Good apps: padron peppers, jicama sticks, guacamole, and salsa were all excellent. For main courses, the tacos al pastor (pork), enchiladas (chorizo/chicken mix), and vegetable tacos were tasty. Two of us had the vegetable quesadilla as an entree, which was quite tasty and a very generous portion! We come to this area frequently in the summer and are happy to have such a strong option. Our only suggestion would be for the kitchen to provide vegetarians with rice and beans. They cook both with chicken stock, which unfortunately make these Mexican restaurant staples unsuitable for people who avoid meat. Looking forward to coming back again soon!

Bland food, Small portions. Fairly expensive. Noisy, noisy with annoying Mexican brass music. No atmosphere. What the heck are we doing here? The waitress started off by spilling six large waters on my wife seated at the end of the table. SoDelCo usually does a good job, love their other restaurants, but this one misses the mark by a mile. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Beautiful atmosphere. Bland food with small portions. Unfortunately Agave Mexican in nearby Lewes DE is so fabulous that the bar is set very high.

I went to Papa Grandes for dinner last weekend and came back super impressed. First off... the margaritas were amazing and the beer and cocktail menus looked great too. We sat upstairs in one of the large booths with a beautiful view. We each ordered two sets of two tacos and shared amongst the group. Three tacos is enough for pretty much anybody. Everyone thought theirs were fantastic - I had the pork belly and duck mole and both were as good as anything I've had in DC. Two thoughts on what people have been complaining about - pricing and menu. 1. Pricing: Four tacos for between $14 - $18, which is more than one person could eat. That is cheaper then pretty much every entree at any of the decent restaurants in FI, Bethany or Rehoboth. You get what you pay for. 2. Menu: Welcome to real food. Cactus Cafe or Mateo's is around the corner if you want generic tacos and fajitas. The menu was fresh, unique and delicious. Papa Grande's - don't change a thing. I'll be back in two weeks.

If your looking for chicken or beef tacos etc this is not the place for you. This is hardcore mexican I guess. pigs bellys, shroom & zucchini, hearts of palm, chayote & pineapple cactus chopped. Weird stuff and not very good. NO substitutions NO side dishes like re-fried beans etc....We paid 35 bucks for 2 meals of unknown grease. Hope you know spanish because I could not figure out 3/4 of the menu. The cheese caso was very good. The bar is nice so maybe a cheese caso and a beer is in order but I would figure it will be closed by summers end.

I really had high hopes for this place. However, in our party of six, NO ONE finished their meal due to the underwhelming taste. Needless to say, to go boxes were not requested. I had really hoped to find a new go to Mexican restaurant to replace La Hacienda since they moved but this seems to have missed the mark. Back to the drawing board I guess!!

The atmosphere and decor were awesome. The food was delicious, but portions were a bit small. We had the queso fundito, chicken quesadillas, zucchini tacos, and fish tacos. Friendly staff. We will be back!

I read some of the other reviews and wondered and I reviewing the same restaurant! Went for lunch and this place blew it out of the park! I had some pork and rice dish that was decantly delicious and fattening, my parner had shrimp tacos. So fresh, so tasty. Our waitress was by far the best we've had the week at the shore! She even got us Ice Teas to go since she knew we were headed back home! This is a definitely come back and the view from the bar upstairs is very nice. (In the old building that had my favorite antique store that closed a while ago).

My husband and I stopped here on our way home from leaving OC last week and we were so excited to try it out! The disappoint only came with the egg and rice bowl. It was primarily pork belly fat and no pork. While I admire the fat for flavor most don't eat it. Including us. We also were not happy about discovering that our chips and salsa we wanted to take home leaked all in the car due to the server not putting a lid on the container :/ I also recommend lunch menus.

I liked the view upstairs. We got here on a Sunday around 11:30 for lunch. We were in the mood for tacos and the new Grab & Go Taco place on Route 1 next to Fisher's Popcorn wasn't open yet, so we went searching for something else. The menu was ok. I little pricey for Mexican. The service was a bit slow for there only being two tables eating when we got there. I asked if the chicken tacos (2 for $12) were all white meat and was told "yes", but I sighted some dark meat mixed in (even if the chicken was marinated, I can tell the difference between white and dark meat). Not a big deal. It came with rice and a side of zucchini (the beans weren't ready for lunch yet). I'll probably give it a try when they offer locals specials in the fall.

This is my first Yelp review ever. Not sure what's taken me so long to get around to writing one but anyway.....Been coming to Bethany since 2005 and have been a fan of the SoDel group's restaurants since we walked into "Blue Coast" 8 years ago. Was really looking forward to their interpretation of Mexican cuisine and we were not disappointed. "PG's" had everything we've come to expect from SoDel: great ambiance, attentive service and creative dishes well-executed. The space is a converted barn with seating on two levels-we sat upstairs in a very spacious booth that comfortably accommodated the eight in our party (4 adults, 4 kids). Started with the guacamole and chorizo queso-both excellent and then tried an array of tacos and quesadillas-chicken, carnitas, chorizo, veggie. The star of the show was the short rib taco-tender, melt in your mouth good. My 14 year old son was a bit more adventurous and had the pork belly, egg and rice bowl and really enjoyed it. As other reviewers have noted, this is not Tex-Mex. If you are expecting giant burritos and ground beef tacos at low single digit prices, you will be disappointed. Find a Chipotle's-you'll be much happier. The menu is closer to what you would find at a Jose Andres restaurant (DC friends think: "Oyamel" without the grasshopper tacos) Prices are moderate and at the low end of the other SoDel spots we've eaten at. With drinks and appetizers, the bill with tip worked out to about $20/person. Can't wait come back next year as it has definitely earned a spot in our beach week rotation.

After much anticipation--very disappointed in this new restaurant. The food, billed as "authentic" was bland, pricey and the portion sizes very small. We had to ask for chile sauces, etc. to spice the food up a bit. The guacamole tasted like plain avocado. I really wish this restaurant filled the hole in this area for great Mexican fare.

Very expensive , pretentious and basic food. They charge to look at you. Upstairs atmosphere is good. They try and be different with the food but each thing we ordered was poor

I had read a lot of the reviews and went to Papa Grande's thinking that I wanted a good margarita but not expecting much from the food. I could not have been more wrong. We went on a Thursday night about 9 pm and got a table on the small deck. The menu is over half drinks and tequila descriptions which was actually a good sign I hate it when the menu is 8 pages long and you know it is all coming from a Sysco truck and a freezer. We had some draft beer and 2 house margaritas, While not cheap, they were very good, they were served in a glass and were made with real lime juice. I don't mind paying $9 for a good drink, if you do, go across the canal and have Natural Light cans until your heart is content. My wife had the Ceviche and I had Carnitas tacos. Everything was very fresh and very authentic. Red pickled onions, rice and black beans, corn tortillas, all very fresh and very good. The tacos were $12 and it was 2 very full tacos. As far as sides go, I am not sure what people wanted. The rice, beans, sauce, onions, cilantro and lettuce were plenty of stuff in each tortilla. I was very impressed with the drinks, the food and atmosphere. Total bill for 2 beers, 3 mixed drinks, Ceviche and 2 tacos was $60. We had drinks and 2 apps for $40 at a close by "raw bar & pub" for $40 and it was horrible. I would gladly give an owner and waitstaff $20 more for fresh ingredients, fresh lime juice and really good atmosphere. If that is not your thing, I know a horrible dive bar with beer pong tables in the Gold Coast Mall.

We spent an enjoyable time outside on the second floor deck last evening, enjoying Margueritas. The staff was friendly and responsive. We took some previous Yelp reviews into consideration when ordering, so we got the Chorizo Queso and Short Rib Tacos (which are on their menu of specials). The Queso was hot, rich and good. The tacos, two per serving, we're tender and flavorful. Note- they are soft tacos, each a mound of meat, guac and pickled veggies on two tortillas. We did sent them back to be heated up and were amazed at how courteous and expeditious the waitress was in accomplishing this. Servings are not gigantic but just enough. I had the baked oysters, also a special, and they were spicy and succulent. If you a looking for that subtle oyster flavor though, I would say this topping, which included spicy chorizo, overpowers them. Also, as a result of customer reviews, PG has started serving complimentary chips and salsa. Their salsa is puréed and a bit homogenous and mild. I would check it out for yourself.

Lunch on May 20. Had Mexican Street corn, the short rib tacos and the carnitas tacos. The food has improved over what we experienced before. The street corn was excellent. The tacos were very good, but needed more salt and more chiles. On the tacos there were some excellent pickled onion.

The food here is delicious. The service leaves a lot to be desired, but the awesome bar and wonderful food mostly made up for it. I had the crispy lobster fajitas, crab and sweet corn queso, ceviche, and roasted padron peppers. The fajitas were phenomenal, and the queso was wildly tasty. We sat outside near the bar and really enjoyed the atmosphere, but the service was incredibly slow and our waitress was often spotted chatting with coworkers rather than getting our drinks. Overall, great food; good experience overall with friends.

Really enjoyed this place! Was skeptical based on some reviews but was more than pleasantly surprised. Came with a group of 5 for drinks and apps and we loved everything we ordered. Really excellent margaritas, great guac, got a few different tacos which were all delicious. Service was a little slow and our server wasn't really tuned into our table the way he should have been. But he was friendly and generally accommodating...just wish he checked in more frequently and kept a better eye on low drinks and whatnot. That's the only thing that makes me give this 4 stars instead of 5. Looking forward to going back. Really cute place!

Came here on a quiet off season weekend and what an excellent meal. Attractive place with a cool bar upstairs and vintage surfer videos projected on the wall. Had very good cocktails to start (mojito and margarita) and really great entrees. I had the rockfish tacos - which were very nicely done and my wife had the special - something called I think Jose sloppy burrito, which she totally raved about as one of the best things she has ever had. The fish on my tacos was lightly breaded with some good 'heat' - with a side of mixed rice and black beans. The burrito was pretty amazing and flavorful and even topped with an egg - and HUGE. Lots of chips and smoky salsa too. Waitress was wonderful. I've hit all of the SoDel Concepts restaurants at the beach and you can't go wrong with any of them. Looking forward to coming back to Papa's in the warm weather and sitting on the deck upstairs.

Finally a good Mexican restaurant opens in Fenwick Island! My review for Tequila Mockingbird was less than favorable so you can imagine how happy I am that Papa Grades turned out to be exactly what I was looking for at the beach. I came here with my husband over the 4th of July weekend. I was pleasantly surprised by the open space and great view upstairs. We ordered drinks and guacamole to start. The guac is big and probably enough for 4 people so keep that in mind if you're a couple. The chips and salsa they bring to the table are awesome too. We both had the chicken tacos and were really pleased with our order. Everything including the service was great. We will definitely be back soon.

After reading the reviews here, I was definitely expecting more. First of all, we were told we could get happy hour pricing on drinks & food at the outside seating or at the bar. We have 3 kids so we couldn't sit at the bar and it was raining. So we couldn't sit outside. I asked if we could get happy hour pricing under the circumstances - we were seated adjacent to the bar - and was told no by our server. The kids meaIs were overpriced - the kids fish taco portion was very small and without the fillings in the regular size. While my lobster quesadilla was very good, it should've been outstanding for the almost $18 we paid. Overall the food was ok but not worth what we paid. When we got the bill, I regretted that we hadn't made a different choice for dinner.

The family is a big fan of Papa Grande's. The Happy Hour tacos are only $2 and do not disappoint. We recommend the Pig Taco (lots of meat with a great salsa on the side) and the corn. The guacamole is not my favorite, it is just too bland for my liking, but besides that, I have really enjoyed everything that I have ordered.

Had to update after coming back today with a gift card from the manager. I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised at the changes that have been made. Let me just reiterate, there was nothing wrong with the quality of the food or service from the get-go. Portion sizes have much improved and the tacos now come with a small side of seasoned rice and beans that are actually really good. I had the short rib tacos which were on special for only $7 and it still came with the same amount of food (non-special price is around $12 so still a bit much, but the tacos seemed bigger). SO. GOOD. The beef was perfectly seared outside and the inside was juicy and tender. I loved the crunchy slaw that the taco came with, and there were pickled radishes or onions or something on top that really gave the meal a great flavor contrast. Shared guacamole with the table and that was great as well, very fresh tasting and a huge scoop that was super flavorful. They topped it with one of their seasoning salts which gave it an extra kick. This time, I left the restaurant feeling very happy and full. Will definitely come back whenever I'm in the area.

I'm a fan of spanish and mexican food. We have a few places in North OC and Fenwick, and I like them all for different reasons. I have "go-to" meals at each establishment. Happy to see something new the GF and I stopped in. I've eaten the food at Catch several times and I've always been impressed. I was looking forward to this. Drinks: good cold tap beer and according to the GF an awesome margarita. A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. More on this later... Food: Sadly we only had time for an app. The bar was pretty crowded and loud, so only so much we could stand. Nothing against the bar, it was one group of golfers polluting the whole room. We had the queso dip which was quite good. A review of the menu and what I saw delivered to other guests reminded me of restaurants in DC. Upscale well thought out meals. Sadly I'm not sure this is the authenticity Fenwick Island is ready for. Looking at the reviews, and knowing the locals, it'll be tough for a place like this. The town is filled with penny chasers who go from bar to bar looking for the cheapest thing on the menu. You can sell this crowd mud if you tell them it's a penny cheaper than the next bar. I plan on going back despite the reviews. One thing I noticed about the reviews below is the reviewers. Most people with one star review of the place only have one review under their belt. Makes me question the motives, and Yelps ability to sort reviews.

Limited menu and small portions. Bland drinks. I expected a more upscale experience with flavors not hiden by fried food. For an excellent casual yet upscale mexican dining experience and out this world margaritas, try "Agave Restaurant" in Lewes. I must comment on the name as well. How did they come up with that name? "Papa Grande" means either a "big potato" in some countries or "large father" not a "big father" (that would "gran papa") in all countries.

Wow! Much better experience this time around! Chips & salsa were included in our meal & we also ordered the queso. The portion sizes were much larger. I had the chicken tacos again & it came with rice & beans. I was very pleased with my meal. My date had the chicken enchilada and said his meal was good. We sat upstairs this time & it was nice to have a view of the water. The menu was also larger and they even had nightly specials. I'm sure we will be returning! Thank you for the gift card Mike! Had we not returned we would have been the ones missing out!

Very excited to try this place. Extremely disappointed. Peach Crush had no flavor of peach. lobster roll was so spicy my mouth burnt and the lobster was chewy to the point of being tough. The spice overtook the lobster flavor. Steak fajitas had a small potion of veggies. Mild flavor. Corn tortillas provided. Not bad but not good. Guacomole was good but the Tortilla chips tasted like they were from a bag. The salsa was runny. Better Mexican can be found at Chipotle. Service was poor. No hostess to greet. Waitress was rushed. All in all not worth time or money. Go across the street to Catch 54.

I won't be back. The food was not very good and the price is too high for it. The cook is a real jerk, don't get close to him. Maybe he just doesn't like his job but he can get ugly with you.

After consistently seeing a large crowd at Papa Grande, I was very excited to try the restaurant with my family. Going in with high expectations, I was sourly disappointed. I can say that our waitress was very attentive and Papa Grande has a fun, relaxed atmosphere. On the other hand, the food was overpriced and under-spiced. I ordered the fish tacos which were extremely bland and minimal. For $14, I would have expected much more flavor. The rice and beans that came on the side were no different. While there may have been more successful dishes on the menu, I believe any Mexican restaurant at the beach should be able to deliver above average fish tacos. I am not planning on returning.

Great little spot for a drink and bite to eat after the beach. Phenomenal happy hour. Highly recommend the fish tacos. Great atmosphere and all around vibe. Cool bartenders.

I had read various reviews of Papa Grande and wasn't sure what to think so we went there for lunch today and were pleasantly surprised. It was GREAT. We have liked all the restaurants in this group ( Matt's Fish Camp. Lupo de Mare, Fish On etc) so it was not a stretch to find another good and reasonable place to eat. the restaurant is lovely and on two levels in Fenwick. We had the speciality drink which was a blood orange Margarita and it was DELICIOSO. They give you salsa and chips. We ordered the Carnitas tacos ( pork) and the Mexican grilled corn to share. We had churros for dessert. Everything, including the waitress was first rate. We will definitely go back for lunch and dinner.

Wonderful meal, great atmosphere right off the water. I had my wife and son with me and the wait staff made us feel at home. Not sure were the person is commenting on price of juice and beer. Both were properly priced similar to when you buy them in the store. Overall priced accordingly and food was excellent! I have told many to visit.

Been here twice while on vacation. It's a great place to have drinks. The food is definitely not authentic mexican food and is actually quite unimpressive. My uncle Tom would describe the black bean soup as "terrible". I got the fish tacos which were rather tasteless. The mexican corn on the other hand is quite delicious as well as their complimentary chips and salsa. I wouldn't recommend this place for a meal though. On a positive note, the bartenders and waiters were friendly and accommodating.

Nice location but very expensive and I didn't think the food or the drinks were worth the price. I can make better authentic Mexican in my own kitchen. I'm a big fan of this groups other restaurants but not this one.

Decor and atmosphere are above average. Nice niche filled for the area. Drinks, specifically Margaritas are above average. The ceviche is a pass. Enchiladas are delicious.

We are big fans of Papa Grande having recently enjoyed lunch and dinner there. In the first place we love the decor especially the upstairs with the surfing movie and great Bay view. The menu is authentically and interesting Mexican like one can enjoy in Mexico City, not like Chipotle or Taco Bell. So please arrive knowing you are going to enjoy a more gourmet eating and drinking opportunity than typical US Mexican restaurants! That being said, prices are reasonable and there is something for everyone on their menu. Loved my Michelada and interesting margaritas! Brisket torta and kitchen sink salad were great for lunch and so reasonable. Last night Valentines dinner with teens in tow was fun! Delicious (free) chips and fresh salsa and $3 Cheddar jalapeño popcorn to start while perusing menu. Entrees were winners such as seared tuna fajitas, chicken mole (could have been served warmer), shrimp rice bowl and steak torta sandwich. My only real complaint was the delicious roasted jalapeño soup with pork belly was cream based but not described as such on the menu. Oh well, a few extra calories. We will definitely be back many times in the near future! And a warm thank you to nice bartenders and servers!

Great atmosphere. Delicious reading menu that delivered. Cocktails were tasty, short rib and Korean beef tacos were delicious -- though the tomato salad was a little bland. Definitely high on my BB list!

This was an impromptu comfort meal after learning about the decapitation of HitchBOT, the hitch-hiking robot. I was pleasantly surprised. I read some reviews complaining of cuisine that's not "authentic Mexican." I've touched on my issue with this criticism before. You know where I go for Mexican food? That's right, Delaware. A bit pricey, si, but enjoyable enough. I got the soft-crab taco which, in addition to being a good amount of food, was arranged in such an elaborate manner that everyone within ten feet of the table felt compelled to peer onto my plate and ask about what it was. Normally when I'm eating crab, I pinch away pesky lookie-loos with one of the claws. I didn't have that option with the soft shell so I requested the waitress bring me an extra fork for, as I so eloquently phrased it, "shankin' anyone 'round me eats." She politely declined.

Have driven by this place the last year or two and never stopped until last night. I am glad we did! We sat at the bar because it looked like a storm was rolling in; next time we will sit on the deck overlooking the bay. Started with the spicy mango margarita which was really strange yet awesome (I had two, yum!) Also ordered guacamole and on the advice of the bartender, street corn (corn on the cob rolled in cheese, crema, red chile, spices etc). Wow, I don't even like corn on the cob but this was freaking awesome stuff. The guacamole was really good too. My husband never eats it anywhere (except mine at home) and he raved over this. Next I ordered the beef short rib tacos and he ordered the shrimp quesadilla. He wasn't thrilled with his, but I really liked mine. The tacos are served in an authentic manner, meaning the meat is the star of the show and they are NOT topped with cheese, sour cream and all that stuff (you have to order a side of "gringo" lmao if you want that stuff which I did). Anyway, the tacos are served on corn tortillas which I hate but that is not their fault, just my personal preference. Anyway, I really liked this place and will go back. The bartender was very friendly too.

We are from California where there is figuratively a Mexican restaurant (or two) on every block run by Mexicans. The food here is not Mexican. It is not even edible except for the nachos (forget the salsa). The only group that enjoys eating here are the plethora of flies coming in through the wide opening to the bay and feasting on you. I suppose it is ok if you are only looking for a place to get soused on beer because food is not what they serve here.

Good service, great food. Was looking for some place new to try that was hopefully not too crowded. Found it here! It is of the main strip, but only a very short distance. Well worth the drive even if it was further out. If you like Queso, they have one of the best white cheese dip. The meal was great and affordable. I will be back here.

Normally this is a favorite- definitely four stars. However tonight our meal was lackluster at best. My friend and I both had the lobster roll. The lobster meat was all claw/leg meat and had no flavor. It was supposed to be tossed with lime mayo but we didn't taste that either. The service was a bit off from normal as well. Despite eating early and being the only table it seemed, our waitress was less than attentive, forgetting to bring the water we asked for as well as a set of silverware that was missing from the table. Didn't check on us once after the meals were delivered. She was more interested in talking to the guys at the bar it seemed. We will likely give it a try again since this was a bit of anomaly from otherwise good past experiences. But they need to seriously reconsider the lobster roll.

Please address your handicap bathroom situation. I really don't care what the " law is regarding the age of the building" It is just plan cruel that my husband can't use the bathroom at your restaurant! !!

Great location but that's all! I have only been here once but was not a great experience. Maybe because it was off season but zero ambience as we were almost the only 2 people in the place! There was one other sat at the bar. Very small portions. Food was extremely average and not authentic mexican. Too bland for our tastes.

  • Margaret S.

Sit it the bar! The bartenders are fabulous! They make most of their specialty margaritas from scratch and they are delicious! There is usually happy hour daily with $2 tacos (2 choices typically). I'm a little lady and can put away 3 easily, my husband 5. Mexican street corn is amazing! Ceviche is another tasty treat! If you order a taco entrée I will advise that the cost is a little high for the 2 tacos. It will come with rice and beans but the serving is in a tiny bowl mixed together so if you don't prefer one you may want to order it special. Skip the chips... salsa is great but on multiple occasions I have watched as the servers help themselves. A chip for them and a chip for your basket. No gloves, no scooper-just handfuls. There isn't a hand washing station so they literally bus tables and then stick their hand into the chips to fill your basket. It's my only warning about this place.

  • M S.

Very pricey, and the food was bland. My burrito was tasteless. The meat had zero seasoning or taste. Also, who puts queso sauce on top of a burrito? So, I had to cut the burrito up so I wouldn't have queso sauce all over my hands. Way to much work when eating a burrito. I would recommend Wawa over this place. Yes I said Wawa.

Came across Papa Grandes during our visit to Ocean City. Best margarita I've ever had, and my quesadilla was delicious. My 3 friends were extremely pleased with their meals as well. Caitlyn (?) took good care of us...Great good, service, and drinks!

Happy Hour. $5. Mexican Street Corn. Hot pickles. Little salted peppers. Wings. Best margaritas. Beer selection. Agave Lime Crushes. The Deck. The Service. Surf movies on the wall. Best place around, no doubt.

This place was beyond amazing!!!! So glad I found it in yelp :) The happy hour prices r great!! The Mexican street corn is really NO JOKE....it was crazy how dang good it was!!!! We come back the next day just to get it again :) along with some amazing Margaritas!!!! The short rib tacos may be one of the best things I've eaten in along time!!!! The fall apart full of flavor meat is crazy crazy good...and the guacamole looks like everyone else's but is packed with a great amount of flavor. Can't wait to come back again and again next year!!!! Service could've been better but all the food made up for it for sure!!!

I had a margarita after parasailing here once before but didn't actually eat anything other than chips and salsa. I was in fenwick and craving Mexican food so I decided to stop by. The pomegranate margarita I had was delicious. Packed a punch and was sweet but not too sweet. The chips were just OK but the salsa was quite flavorful. I saw they had rare tuna tacos advertised on their website and was looking forward to trying them. When I got there they weren't on the menu so that was kind of annoying. I ordered the lobster and corn quesadillas. These were great: the cheese complimented everything nicely, rather than overpowering it. There were nice claw/knuckle pieces of lobster mixed with corn and peppers. The honey chipotle sauce they served with it was phenomenal. I was also surprised with how generous the portions were. I ate at the bar and everything was fine service wise. I did feel bad for the bartender because while I was there the margarita machine exploded and got margaritas all over the bar floor. Oh well. I'll be back for sure! Leaps and bounds above that other Mexican place in North OC.

I don't know what to make of this place. I've been there about 4 times, and had very different experiences. The first time I went there, it was brand new. The service wasn't great despite the place being empty, and the portion size was very small. The next time we went, it was much improved. Servings were bigger, and the goat tacos were DELICIOUS. The 3rd time, I had the same positive experience. So naturally, the last time I went the goat tacos had been removed from the menu and the service was poor. I ordered a quesadilla that had pork in it, and there were HUGE pieces of fat mixed in, to the point where it was almost inedible. To their credit, they immediately apologized and didn't charge me. The bottom line is when everything is firing on all cylinders they make some very good food and have a fantastic atmosphere and view (it's a little expensive, but the view is part of what you're paying for). But so far it has been very inconsistent. Considering the last experience was the worst so far, I can't justify a higher rating yet, especially considering the prices. But if they get more consistent and I have a good experience again, this rating will probably change. Considering the atmosphere and the quality of the food when they do it right, this could be a 5 star spot if they work out the kinks.

Just went to happy hour here because we read reviews that said it was decent. Went upstairs and sat at a table and someone threw a menu at us and disappeared. Full bar and all 4 tables were full and no waitresses in sight. We sat there only 20 minutes before I flagged down a busboy to ask... all the servers we're in a server meeting. A server meeting memorial day weekend, friday in the middle of happy hour.. come on! Waitress arrived with attitude "so I guess you guys want some drinkks?"... we got margaritas and tacos. Margarita was just ok, same with tacos... tacos we're $3 each and very small. The same tacos that are at Mothers for $1 each basically. Had to ask for silverware. Food arrived before drinks or silverware. Poor service continued with our server being nonexistant. Someone needs to explain to these people how happy hour works.

First time in was for a happy hour. Granted it was off-season, but the bar was 3/4 full. We had pork & fish tacos and a pile of nachos. The tacos were delicious and the nachos were loaded to the max. I will figure out how to get there again - soon

Nick, great to see you and service was Grande! as always, even though you seemed to be working alone. What has happened to the great food here??? Blackened mahi mahi tacos should be renamed micro blackened mahi mahi tacos. The "jumbo wings" four of them at $8.00, whole wings, un-eatable wing tips and all. Why do I have to fight to eat badly presented food? The previously wonderful Hangover Cocktail is now made only with shrimp? We will return when the Grande food comes back, hope it is soon.

Let me start out by saying that I am morally opposed to paying more than $3 or $4 for an individual taco. $14 for two tacos? You must be joking. They're not joking, but they do have a pretty decent happy hour. I'm sure the specials change, but when we went they had two different tacos for $2 each (a little more on my level). I had a margarita, which was excellent. Boyfriend and I split an order of guacamole, which was fine. It's hard to screw up guac. I also ordered two crispy fish tacos and they were...I don't know. They were just kind of boring, I guess? Not much flavor to the fish or the breading or really anything else in the taco. Overall, a little underwhelming. But I'd still come back to try some of the other happy hour tacos, since everyone was friendly and the margarita was good.

  • Bob J.

Don't waste your time. I guess if you have a place anywhere near the water people will come and not care about quality. How can you be billed as a taqueria and the tacos suck. We ordered the Korean and the pork and both were very, very dry - like eating old beef jerky. The accompanying rice was cold and dry. How hard is it to keep your main filling moist and edible. Every think about cooking them fresh as ordered on a grill with or pan with some liquid? And $6 dollars a taco.

As a vegan, the beach is a tough place...... but Papa Grande is great! Our entire group was impressed with the food, vegans and non-vegans alike. We got to sit upstairs which was nice, not near the window, but I'm sure the view is great. Didn't notice any vents blasting AC at tables... The chips and salsa starter is great, the salsa being a little bit spicier than you'd expect. But delicious nonetheless and it's bottomless - always a win. Cocktail wise, we tried the spicy margarita special and the lemon berry margarita, both were great. The spicy is just enough, and very creative. Our group got quesadillas (very nicely plated), the tomato salad, fajitas, and tacos. For VEGANS, get the carrot and jicama appetizer (don't get the melon, nothing special) followed by two sides of rice and beans and the seasonal vegetables. I don't always like zucchini but it was GREAT. I would definitely get this same meal again, very flavorful and filling. Our waitress told us a vegan at another table had just ordered the same thing! All in all a wonderful doing experience, the owners know what they're doing.

Pretty good service, never too long of a wait and delicious queso and crazy margaritas! The indoor/outdoor upstairs bar/dining is great for family or a hot date. We enjoy the changing menu with great corn tortilla tacos like soft shell crab, fresh shimp or fish. They also have crazy stuff like pork belly and spam! It's a bit on the expensive side, taco's can be up to $21 and the house margarita is $10. What keeps us coming back is the street corn, it's worth it and amazing! Must: Try street corn

Came here for lunch for mothers day with my parents and sat outside on the upper deck. Our sever Chelsea was friendly. We ordered Margs, Chunky Guacamole and fajitas. The Margs were good, my mom had a bug in hers but they remade it. By the time the guac came, we had no chips to eat it with, we couldn't get our servers attention for about 10 minutes and no one else was around, I had to get up and ask the bartender. Guac was good but had way too much olive oil in it, it was like soup. My dad enjoyed his burrito. My mom and I had the fajitas and they were good but the rice with it was cold, very cold and uncooked completely. I let our server know and she gave us fresh ones but the rice was awful, no flavor at all. Our server was sweet but we couldn't get her attention whenever we needed her. She forgot our waters, we had no silverware or napkins until I flagged her down when our meals came. She wasn't the best. With the issues that occurred, we agreed we will not come back. Needless to say, it was Mother's Day and my mom did not enjoy her meal and we won't be back.

In the past month they've changed over to the summer staff... And for anyone who ever said that there is no skill in bartending and/ food prep - they are wrong! Visited the past 2 weekends ( thought last weekend was a glitch) ... Worst drinks I've ever had - and the $15/plate food was slopped on our plate - and almost inedible. New bartender was rude - and again drinks they claim to made "fresh" were being poured from pitchers. Not going back here anytime soon.

Pro: Maximo margarita is how a margarita should be. Perfect. $13. A bit expensive but sometimes people just eff up the margarita. Con: the fish tacos were two of the smallest fish tacos I have ever seen or eaten. $14 for two tiny (breaded mahi) fish tacos. What are we, in DC??

Arrived and there was about a 20 minute wait so my party of three went to the upstairs bar. So glad we did. That's where we stayed. Great view and the Oriole game was projected on the wall. Loved the atmosphere. Food: My friend craved nachos. For $14..yes 14, although a huge plate of chips, they can do better. Kitchen sink nachos doesn't even include guacamole ($1 extra) or meat. Throw on more cheese instead of julienned cabbage. After getting through the first layer there was hardly any cheese for the beans etc to stick to. For that price definitely should include more stuff. Either include more or use less chips and lower the price. Wouldn't order again. Friends both got sloppy joe tacos which they liked. I got the chicken tortilla soup that was bland. I added salt, pepper and some hot sauce that was on the table and it was delicious. Delightful texture. I don't like hot stuff so all it needed was a little pumping up. A little spice directly from the kitchen and I would have been raving. Shaved brussel sprout salad was ok but it too needed a little more zing in the dressing. Overall would go again though because I loved the atmosphere and I'd try something else because most of the food I saw looked fresh and good. Hope the owners are listening to suggestions.

My husband daughter & I grabbed lunch here the other day & we were thrilled! As a fan of a few other Matt Haley restaurants I had high expectations & I can tell you they were exceeded! Sure, it's not a cheap taco joint, but they're every where. Papa Grande's is cool & unique. Simple decor with great water views from upstairs to sip your slamming margarita to. I had lobster tacos & my husband had the surf & turf burrito. Both were specials & both awesome! The burrito seemed a little light on the surf (shrimp) but the tender juicy beef made it ok. My lobster was succulent & beautifully battered. I licked & sucked on the shell it was so delicious. My daughters cheese quesadilla was meh to me but she loved it... Again, it was not cheap but worth it & I shall be back again to sip those delish margaritas.

This place is pretty good. I was warned before coming here that the food wouldn't be great, but what we had was great (chicken quesadilla, guac, and margaritas). Happy hour prices are good, $5 marg's from 2-6. The only thing is we went three days in a row at 4pm, and the first day the frozen margaritas were finished brewing. The next two days, they weren't finished brewing yet even though happy hour had started 2 hours before?? Found that odd. The margaritas were strong, though, so that kept us happy. The only other con I can think of is that the restaurant is small and a bit tight. I don't think it would work well for a party larger than 4. This will definitely be our new on-the-way-home-from-the-beach hangout spot, for sure.

The atmosphere and location are perfect. Love Mexican food and was very excited to try this new restaurant. I was very disappointed and knew we were in trouble when you had to order chips and salsa and when they came they were stall and plan. The salsa tasted like it had ketchup. The servings were small. The tortilla soup was too spicy and the ingredients were a shredded mess. The guac was small and expected. The quesadilla with chicken was simple with too little filling. We will not being going back.

Food tasty with small portions. No need to feel guilty about over eating. Menu limited but tasty. Husband disappointed they did not have what he wanted to order and server unfamiliar with wine list. Food a bit spicy so request water. Lively bar. Fun for people watching. tequila mockingbird remains better option for Mexican food in area.

Only giving one star because 0 stars are not an option! No taste. Def not a do over! Worst fish tacos I've ever put in my mouth!

Our fav place in our new home! Food and drinks are always top quality to go along with the BEST bartenders, particularly Jamie and Nick. Give it a try at Happy Hour for starters!!

Great location but that's all! I have only been here once but was not a great experience. Maybe because it was off season but zero ambience as we were almost the only 2 people in the place! There was one other sat at the bar. Very small portions. Food was extremely average and not authentic mexican. Too bland for our tastes.

Good menu and great drinks!! They also have specials everyday in the off season which I really enjoy! Try the spicy margarita or a ice cold modelo if you stop in!

Loved this place. Great salsa, great guacamole, short rib burrito amazing....all this plus a great view. Oh, and our server (forgot his name) was attentive and personable. Definitely recommend and will be back! Thanks to our friend Jay Murphy for telling us about this spot!

Awesome Mexican - great Vibe. Nice casual. Upstairs bar is big and open. Excellent selection of tequila and fresh made marguerites. Bar tender is fabulous. Downstairs is intimate. Food is great and authentic.

I cannot judge the entire menu, since we were there for a late lunch only once. What we got was OK, but nothing special. We sat at the balcony, so got very good views of the bay and the marina below.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
